The Piña name (it means “fruit of the pine” in Spanish)

The Piña Brothers family’s paternal history includes grandparents who left Malaga, Spain in 1911 to work in Hawaii for promises of gold and land and subsequently came to California where they settled on a farm in Rutherford in the 1920s.The grandfather of the current generation of Piñas owned a vineyard on the Silverado Trail near the Piña Napa Valley winery .

2009 Harvest

"Overall the 2009 vintage produced an average crop size, though it was much larger in comparison to the tiny 2008 crop. The 2009 fruit had very bright fruit flavors. We achieved good phenological ripeness of the tannins and flavors before sugar levels got too high. The corresponding wines have beautiful ripe fruit aromatics and are impeccably balanced with good acidity and alcohol levels."

2008 Harvest

"The resulting 2008 wines are very promising. They have great color accompanied by good tannin structure and mouth feel. There is good concentration and acidity. Although we may not have a lot to drink this year, it will surely be enjoyable."

2007 Harvest

"The 2007 wines are big and powerful yet they have balance and finesse. The Cabernets exhibit deep concentrated color. The wines are well structured but the tannins are not drying or overbearing. Overall, the 2007 vintage produced some phenomenal wines. "
